See linked document for full description of this hike. Hike Overview: From the Colorado Trail trailhead, we walk north up and out of Raspberry Gulch and get fine views of the gulch. Wildflowers begin at this point along the east slopes of Mt. Antero. The Colorado Trail slopes gently downward for the next 1.5 miles as, gradually, the Chalk Cliffs and local peaks come into view in front of us. At 1.5 miles, we cross another trailhead at the end of FS #274. After this intersection, the trail climbs steeply (but relatively short) up the ridge, a glacial lateral moraine, forming the south wall of the Chalk Creek drainage upon which the best views of the area are obtained. We will walk to the west end of the ridge where the Colorado Trail descends steeply down to Chalk Creek and we get very good views of the north side of Mt. Antero, Raspberry Mountain, the west horst Rio Grande Rift Fault, and the Chalk Creek drainage. We return on the same route from this point, with time for exploration and lunch along the ridge at a scenic spot overlooking the Chalk Cliffs. We get good views of the Arkansas Valley on the return hike.
