Clean Up Project - All Ages
Join the Highline Lake team for a lakebed clean-up event as we prepare to refill the lake. Drained in 2024 for zebra mussel eradiation, the lakebed now sits empty, exposing nearly 58 years of trash and other debris. The empty lake has given us the opportunity to clean up years of filth, removing cans, glass, and other trash. We will meet at the Visitor Center at 9am for a brief safety meeting, discuss our focus locations for trash clean up, and distribute supplies. The park will provide latex gloves, trash bags, and some trash grabbers. Our ask of volunteers is to help us bag the trash near the shoreline where our staff will pick up bags and haul them to the dumpsters. The trash could include aluminum cans, broken glass, fishing hooks, and other sharp items. We recommend bringing and wearing thick gloves if you have them. We also recommend wearing shoes you don't mind getting dirty with mud. When we are done with the clean-up at 12pm, the park will provide a taco bar to say thanks for helping us take care of the park. We do require registration for this event but that is to ensure we have enough supplies and food. When else will you get the opportunity to say you walked on the bottom of Highline Lake?
