Moonrise Hike

Roxborough State Park
| Registration Required
Guided Group Program - Adults (ages 18 & up)
As a calm summer evening settles over Roxborough, the park comes alive in a unique way as the moon rises and casts its gentle glow across the landscape. Even if you've wandered Roxborough's trails during the day, you'll be amazed at how the park transforms under the light of the rising full moon, revealing wonders you've never seen before. The cool night air awakens a whole different side to Roxborough State Park. Begin your adventure at the Visitor Center, then hike alongside the majestic sleeping giant red rocks as we explore the Fountain Valley Trail, discovering Roxborough's nocturnal magic. The Friends of Roxborough State Park are sponsoring the evening hike series once again for 2026. These monthly hikes throughout Summer and early Fall pair participants with knowledgeable volunteer guides who explore the secrets and natural beauty of Roxborough as the night unfolds. As these Moonrise Hikes are fundraising events for the Friends of Roxborough State Park, we ask for a donation of $8.00 per person. We have simplified the Moonrise Hike registration process for this year! 1) Join the waitlist for the Moonrise Hike of your choice on CPW Connect (please ignore the minimum/maximum participants listed) 2) Call the park's Visitor Center (303-973-3959) between 9:00am - 4:00pm Tuesday through Friday to make your donation over the phone via credit card 3) Once your donation is processed, you'll be moved from the waitlist to a confirmed participant! I am a retired biogeographer and emeritus faculty at Arapahoe Community College (ACC). I taught physical geography and environmental science. My master's thesis was a habitat research project on Rana pipiens (northern leopard frog) in SE Wyoming. My favorite ACC activity was taking my landform students to Roxborough to view the geology and teaching environmental sampling techniques to ecology students in various open space surrounding ACC. Volunteering as a naturalist is my way of "giving back".
