Saturday, May 24 Program: Beginner’s Level 1 Mountain Bike Lesson Time: 8:00 am – 12:00 pm Location: Limekiln Trailhead Details: Have a mountain bike but not really sure how to ride it? Mountain biking is more than just riding a bike and understanding the basic skills of mountain biking will not only make you safer on the bike, but will boost your confidence and make riding more fun. Bring your bikes, helmets, snacks, and water and join our BICP certified mountain bike instructor, Ranger Rick, to learn the fundamentals of mountain biking! In our Beginner’s Level 1 mountain bike lesson, you will learn: • How to check your bike and equipment to ensure you are ready for a safe ride. • The three mountain biking essentials needed for all fundamental skills. • Proper body and foot positioning to improve your balance, stability, and control. • Body/bike separation to adjust your position on the bike to maintain balance and stability as the trail changes. • Braking to ensure you can stop the bike in a controlled and safe manner. • Gear shifting to make you more efficient and reduce wear and on your chain, gears, and derailleurs. You will learn these skills at the Limekiln Trailhead parking lot to give you a safe surface to learn on prior to getting on the dirt. After each skill has been thoroughly explained and demonstrated by the instructors, you be given plenty of practice time in the parking lot with the instructors helping you improve with each repetition. After lesson is over, head out onto our trails to practice and hone your new skills! This program is intended for novice riders and recommended for ages 14 and up. For the safety of the group and flow of the lesson, no riders under the age of 14 will be permitted. Helmets are mandatory. Please remember to bring plenty of water. This program is weather and trail conditions permitting and is limited to 6 slots. If you have any questions, or if you would like more information, call the Visitor Center at 719-576-2016. Standard operating hours are Monday-Sunday from 9AM-4PM. Any changes and/or cancellations will be communicated via email. This event is free. A valid parks pass is required.
