At 7,000 feet in elevation, Salida is a small mountain town of 5,300 people and is known for arts and outdoor activities. Chaffee County is home to more mountains over 14,000 feet in elevation than any other county in Colorado.
The Area 13 (Salida) maintenance office is located along the Arkansas River and lies between the Sawatch and Sangre de Cristo Mountain Ranges. The maintenance office is also on the same property as the Mt. Shavano Fish Hatchery, one of the largest hatcheries in the state, produces approximately 550,000 catchable (10 inch) trout and 1-2 million sub-catchable fish (2-5 inches) per year.
Responsibilities:
Support the local wildlife technician with important irrigation work to manage water and improve wildlife habitat.
Qualifications:
Looking for 1 host (solo or a pair) for the 2023 summer season! Start date is as soon as possible through Labor Day.

For those with an interest and familiarity of birds, volunteers will adopt local nest boxes throughout the Upper Arkansas River Valley to monitor Bluebird house/nesting sites.
