Campground Host


Description:
Volunteer host duties are cleaning and tidying up campsites. Other responsibilities include providing information to the public, assisting in the campground office when needed, maintenance and cleaning (such as restrooms, cabins, yurts, campsites, and grounds), and other projects based on individual skills. Full hookups are available at host campsite. Please note: this is a mountain park; altitude ranges from 8,200 to 9,200 feet, and these host positions are physically demanding due to type of tasks, terrain, and altitude. Cell phone and internet reception in the area is unreliable. Satellite reception is dependent upon set-up/provider.

Campground Office Assistant


Description:
This volunteer position is for our Reverend's Ridge Campground office. The responsibilities consist of selling passes, giving out park information, and general customer service. Light cleaning as well as a flexible schedule are required. Ideally, volunteers are able to fill in when needed and even help out with campfire programs and spur of the moment interpretative programs for families in the campground. The focus will be on pass sales as well as reservation check in's. THIS IS NOT A HOST POSITION. A camping spot is not provided for this position.

Maintenance


Description:
Park Maintenance & Construction Volunteers assist park staff with a wide variety of projects and tasks related to enhancing the park's facilities, grounds, trails, equipment, and infrastructure. Volunteers with construction, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, cleaning, painting, trail maintenance, and landscaping skills are encouraged to apply.

Naturalist


Description:
Present park interpretive program, such ass: campfire talks, nature walks, multi-media shows, living history programs, evening programs and others. Lead school group programs on-site. Visit local students in their classrooms or other groups and conduct interpretive programs off-site. Conduct public workshops or classes. Conduct roving interpretive patrols in campgrounds, on park trails, at park facilities, or in the backcountry.

Park Patrol - Backcountry


Description:
Conduct back country patrol via three modes of transportation: horses, hiking, or mountain biking. Volunteering for this section includes contacting park visitors, checking trail conditions, light trail maintenance, and cleaning back country campsites.

Resident Volunteer - Visitor Services


Description:
Visitor center hosts greet visitors in Golden Gate's visitor center and help orient them to the park, its natural and cultural features, rules and regulations, and available programs. Distribute park maps and brochures, in addition to answering phones and performing other clerical tasks (cleaning and light maintenance duties as assigned). Volunteers sell parks passes, permits, firewood, and gift store items, and they assist with campground reservations, special events and other park programs. Attention to detail and customer service experience is desirable. Host site available for this period with electricity, water, and sewer hook ups. Please Note: This is a mountain park; altitude ranges from 8,200 to 9,200 feet. Cell phone and internet reception in the area is unreliable. Satellite reception is dependent upon set-up / provider.
Time Commitment:
40 hours per week from mid-May through Labor Day. Hours can be split between volunteers.

Special Projects


Description:
Do you have a special skill that could benefit the park? This volunteer opportunity is for you. Some of the special projects that people have helped with in the past include: write and develop outdoor interpretive signs for self-guiding trails or roadside exhibits. Recruit other volunteers. Photograph or video tape park programs, special events, visitors, or resources. Assist in planning volunteer recognition or social events. Train other volunteers. Provide equipment, donated funds, or expertise on special projects. Design and create puppets, historical costumes, and more.

Weed Warriors


Description:
Volunteer Weed Warriors assist park staff in identifying, monitoring, mapping, and removing non-native invasive & noxious weed species from Golden Gate Canyon State Park. Volunteers receive training in correctly identifying, mapping, and effectively removing select non-native invasive & noxious species. Volunteer Weed Warriors do not apply herbicides to weeds.
