Bike Park Maintenance


Become a general maintenance technician for our Corral Center Bike Park.

This includes:

  • vegetation management
  • cleaning out ditches and ruts
  • sweeping pump track and jump lines, etc. 

This is a labor intensive position that will require the use of tools (both hand and power) and machinery. This is a year round volunteer position.

Butterfly Monitoring


Since 2013 Lory State Park has participated in a long-term community science project that monitors butterfly populations in various locations throughout Colorado. Lory State Park has two trails certified by the Butterfly Pavilion in Denver.

Join our butterfly monitoring team and learn how to Identify local butterflies, learn about them and collect data.

This volunteer opportunity is only available from May through September or October, depending on the first freeze. This opportunity requires a six month commitment with a weekly schedule. Training is provided to all monitors.

Monitor Requirements:

  • Willing to follow a Lead Monitor. 
  • Able to commit to a weekly or bi-monthly monitoring schedule. 
  • Able to hike 2 miles in 2 hours.

Naturalist


Present park interpretive programs, such as:

  • Campfire talks
  • Nature walks
  • Multi-media shows
  • Living history programs
  • Evening programs and others
  • Lead school group programs on-site.
  • Visit local students in their classrooms or other groups and conduct interpretive programs off-site.
  • Conduct public workshops or classes.
  • Conduct roving interpretive on park trails, at park facilities, or in the back country.

These programs are typically done between April and October, and very little is done between November and March. There may be long delays in staff communication during these winter months.

Special Projects


Lory State Park is always looking for volunteers to help with the many needs of the park. This opportunity covers all areas of the park and will receive emails when a opportunity is active and we need assistance.

Activities can include:

  • invasive plant management
  • trail maintenance
  • general upkeep
  • event prep and many others.

Visitor Services


Serve in our visitor center doing the following duties: 

  • selling park passes
  • merchandise
  • answering phone calls
  • and costumer service.

Requirements:

This opportunity requires training on using the IPAWS system for selling park passes or licenses. Good costumer service skills, basic knowledge of computers, and cash handling skill are encouraged but not required.
