This lake-based retreat for the Western Slope provides nature, picnic and water recreation.  Visitors come to Sweitzer Lake for action-packed boating and waterskiing on busy days, and relaxed nature play on mellow days. In the distance, the majestic San Juan Mountains, the Uncompahgre Plateau and Grand Mesa — the largest flattop mountain in the world — surround Sweitzer Lake. With 588 acres, 137 acre reservoir, 32 picnic sites, and 3 miles of trail you'll feel right at home at this local oasis.

It is an exciting time at the park as we will begin construction of our campground this winter. The campground will likely not be open until the fall of 2026 or spring of 2027. While the campground is being constructed, the duties of our volunteer hosts will be non-typical as we work towards the completion of the campground facilities. These interim responsibilities will encompass a range of essential tasks focused on site preparation and general maintenance. This includes activities such as regular mowing of grassy areas, weed eating to maintain clear pathways and site boundaries, consistent watering and management of irrigation systems to support landscaping and vegetation growth, and ensuring the overall cleanliness and tidiness of the park grounds. These efforts are crucial to establishing a welcoming and well-maintained environment for future campers.

Once the campground is fully operational, our dedicated volunteer hosts will transition to a more traditional set of responsibilities, vital for the smooth and enjoyable experience of all our guests. These core duties will include:

  • Assisting Visitors: Providing a friendly and helpful presence, answering questions, offering local information, and ensuring campers have a positive experience. This may involve providing directions, explaining park rules, and offering assistance with minor issues that may arise.
  • Maintaining the Swim Beach Areas: Regularly inspecting and tidying swim beach areas to ensure they are clean and ready for new arrivals. This includes minor upkeep such as raking, sweeping, and ensuring waste receptacles are emptied.
  • 1 opening for summer 2025.

We are looking for couples or pairs and will discuss with hosts on a case-by-case basis who have children or pets.
