Built solely for recreation, Sweitzer Lake fulfills its planned purpose well. Visitors water-ski, swim, picnic, fish, boat, bird watching, sit on the grass, picnic, rest their feet on the sandy shore or just enjoy the day. Sweitzer volunteer hosts assist in meeting the needs of park visitors and assist staff in ways that enhance park operations. Responsibilities include but may not be limited to the following: collect fees and dispense park information at entrance stations, greet visitors, assist in daily park operations, assist with light maintenance and grounds keeping (e.g., mowing/irrigation). Hosts must reside in the park. A full service host campsite is included. Note: Sweitzer is a day use park only.
Minimum of 24 hours per person per week, including weekends and holidays. Each host couple will receive 2 consecutive days off per week.
Season: mid-May until mid-September
Write and develop outdoor interpretive signs for self-guiding trails or roadside exhibits. Recruit other volunteers. Photograph or video tape park programs, special events, visitors, or resources. Assist in planning volunteer recognition or social events. Train other volunteers. Provide equipment, donated funds, or expertise on special projects. Design and create puppets, historical costumes, and more.
