Resident Volunteer
Built solely for recreation, Sweitzer Lake fulfills its planned purpose well. Less than one hour from the mouth of the San Juan Mountains, visitors water-ski, swim, picnic, fish, boat, bird watching, sit on the grass, picnic, rest their feet on the sandy shore or just enjoy the day.
Responsibilities:
- Collect entrance fees
- Dispense park information
- Light maintenance and grounds keeping
- Other tasks as assigned
Elevation:
5142 feet
Host position have been filled for the 2025 season, but waitlist is still open.
Pairs, individuals, families with children, and people who are still working/in their careers (e.g. working remotely) are welcome to apply (couples preferred). Hosts are permitted to have pets.

Special Projects
- Write and develop outdoor interpretive signs for self-guiding trails or roadside exhibits.
- Recruit other volunteers. Photograph or video tape park programs, special events, visitors, or resources.
- Assist in planning volunteer recognition or social events.
- Train other volunteers. Provide equipment, donated funds, or expertise on special projects.
