Assist Species Conservation Biologist with various projects as needed.
Volunteer assists local CPW biologists and the Gunnison Basin Wet Meadow Restoration and Resiliency Building project enhance wildlife habitat through the use of simple low-tech restoration structures built from rock and wood materials. Restoration structures will be built by hand in incised stream channels to promote water spread, retention, and connectivity with former meadow surface/floodplain. Restoration will enhance mesic plant communities which Gunnison sage-grouse need for late brood-rearing and summer-fall habitat. These efforts benefit a variety of other species such as deer, elk, pronghorn, neo-tropical birds, and amphibians. Volunteers need to be physically fit and capable of working in adverse weather conditions. The ability to lift irregularly shaped rocks weighing a few pounds to over 50 pounds is needed. Volunteers will serve in a team environment, typically with a crew supervisor or biologist. Special training on how to construct restoration structures will be provided.
