If you enjoy talking to people about all things Barr Lake, this position is for you! Visitor Services Ambassadors serve as the first point of contact with visitors, ensuring they feel welcomed and informed about recreational opportunities and conditions, possess the required entry pass, and have a safe and enjoyable experience. Required training will be provided.

Responsibilities and Duties

This is a customer service based position that involves working in the entrance station and/or Nature Center, greeting visitors, and selling CPW products and merchandise. Daily interaction with park visitors requires effective communication and public relations skills.

  • Welcome visitors, answer questions, sell or verify passes.
  • Payment processing and cash handling.
  • Verify validity of annual passes, including Keep Colorado Wild (KCW).
  • Light maintenance, including dusting and sweeping.
  • Document and report visitor complaints.
Time Commitment:

16 hours per month, 4 hour shift minimum. Minimum 6 months.

Qualifications Required

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Cash handling experience
  • Willingness to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Dependable and communicative.
  • Excel at working individually 
  • Good decision-making skills and judgment.
  • Familiarity with Barr Lake State Park and its activities is a plus.
  • Committed to Colorado Parks and Wildlife and Barr Lake State Park’s mission and goals.

Training and/or Preparation Required

  • Training will be provided on-site with staff or an experienced volunteer.
    • Training will begin by shadowing an experienced visitor services attendant, followed by hands-on training with supervision. Once comfortable with basic operations, you will be able to operate the entrance booth and/or Nature Center independently.
    • Additional training will be available as needed, and support will always be a radio or phone call away.
  • Must create a user profile in CPW Connect to track hours.

Evaluation Expectations

  • For Entrance volunteers, by the end of training, you should be able to:
    • Process a daily pass sale as a cash or credit card transaction.
    • Identify annual park pass holders by their annual pass vehicle sticker or their KCW vehicle registration.
    • Answer basic visitor questions like locating park facilities and identifying park trails.
  • For Nature Center volunteers, you should be able to process the sale of CPW products including licenses and registrations, as well as the sale of products in the gift shop.
  • Volunteers must wear CPW uniform items provided by the park.
  • Volunteers may be dismissed if they are not carrying out their responsibilities, are not reliable, or are otherwise unprofessional.
