Orientation or Training

If you have not volunteered for CPW before, please fill out the volunteer application linked at the bottom of the page after registering for this training. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are not currently a volunteer at Waterton Canyon, you have found the right training to sign up for, both nights are required and will cover different material! Current volunteers are only required to attend night two (April 30th) and can register for the activity titled "Waterton Canyon Ambassador Training - Current Volunteer Registration" Do you love to spend time outside and help educate others on responsible wildlife viewing and recreation? Then come learn what it takes to be a Waterton Canyon Ambassador over this two night training series. Every year, more and more people discover the beauty of Waterton Canyon, in 2024, roughly 100,000 people recreated at this site. At the same time, the canyon is also home to a robust population of bighorn sheep and other kinds of wildlife who frequently cross the trail to reach the river. Waterton Canyon Ambassadors are a critical volunteer role who provide education at both stationary pop-up education tables, and while roving the canyon by hiking or biking to connect with visitors. Education efforts are geared towards safe and ethical wildlife viewing, big horn sheep biology and behavior, and Leave No trace Principles. In this role you will be supported by local District Wildlife Managers, the CPW Northeast Region Volunteer and Education Coordinators, and Denver Water staff. The training will be held in person at the Kassler Center just down the road from the Waterton Canyon Trailhead 11338 Waterton Rd, Littleton, CO 80125. The gates that lead to the Kassler Center will be open. There are parking spaces in front of the building, as well as a dirt lot located just across the road inside the facility, near the dumpsters on site. We do ask the folks try not to park on the road due to operations and space for machinery to move about. If you are unable to make it in person and would like a virtual option please email [email protected] to get the virtual registration link.
