OIT Weed Warriors Project  - Cheyenne Mountain State Park

Wednesday, 16 August 2023 @ 08:00 AM to 11:00 AM

Habitat Project

Keep Cheyenne Mountain State Park beautiful by removing invasive weeds, such as thistle and mullein, and help ensure the native habitat can thrive. This project is for OIT staff and their family and friends! If you would like to bring friends or family but don't want to create an account for them, just email Becky Mares at [email protected] to let us know how many people you're bringing. Meet at the Visitor Center, located next to the entrance station. Pat Cooper, our lead volunteer, will meet you there and guide you towards the project site, what to pull vs what to leave, and how remove the invasive weeds effectively. Difficulty: easy to moderate. No experience needed. Accessibility: terrain will be uneven and not necessarily along well marked trails. Aside from this project, you may be excited to hear that Cheyenne Mountain is working on purchasing and creating a program for Trail Hoppers (mobility devices)! What to wear and bring: Wear sunscreen, and layers appropriate for weather predictions, including sunglasses, a hat, close-toed shoes, and long pants. Bring at least 1 liter of water and snacks. You may want to consider bug spray. Bring work gloves if you have them. We will provide gloves for those who don’t have them, as well as extra water, Gatorade, other supplies and staff support. Day-Of Contact: Pat Cooper (Lead Volunteer), (719) 963-4654, [email protected]
