Habitat Project  -  All Ages

Join us to install new wildlife-friendly barbed wire fence to protect seedling trees at Hugo State Wildlife Area! Volunteers have worked hard over the last two years to plant thousands of trees at Hugo for wildlife habitat and resource restoration. This fencing will support the survival of those trees. Volunteers should wear appropriate clothing for the weather conditions (and wind), comfortable closed toed shoes, work gloves and sunscreen. Please bring food, water and sunscreen. Optional additional items you could bring if you have them: shovels, fence pliers, post hole diggers. Average weather in May in this area is a high of 70 degrees and a low of 40, with a change of spring storms. We will proceed as planned unless there are unsafe conditions. Fire danger is likely to be high, so please keep vehicles off of grassy areas. A light lunch will be provided from the local Jean's Family Kicthen (sandwich boxes - turkey, roast beef, or ham with chips and a cookie). We will have a large water cooler for refilles, Gatorate, and snacks available. Let us know ahead of time if there are any dietary restrictions. Cell service may be spotty. Contact Jeff Belveal with questions: [email protected], cell 719-740-1812 Thank you all for your willingness to help with this work. We admire your willingness to volunteer your valuable time, and we are grateful for the help - this kind of project would be impossible for Jeff to accomplish without you. Can't wait!
