Campground Host


Description:

Lathrop State Park is located near the exceptionally scenic Sangre de Cristo Mountains in southern Colorado and has a great view of the Spanish Peaks. Located near Walsenburg and La Veta, Lathrop State Park offers a wide range of outdoor natural recreation opportunities including, fishing, boating, golfing, trails, archery range, photography and much more. Lathrop State Park has 103 campsites, 3 group camping areas, a 140 and 180 surface acre lakes, multiple trails, swim beach, and numerous picnicking areas. Lathrop has good access to Sand Dunes National Park and scenic drives on Highway 12 up to U.S. Forest Service public land. We are only a few minutes from Walsenburg and about 1 hour from Trinidad and Pueblo. There is a hospital located directly across from the park. Volunteers are responsible for general park maintenance and cleaning of public facilities including restrooms, showers, vault toilets, campsites, picnic areas, trails, etc. Performs routine maintenance. Assures quality customer service and facility maintenance, repair and cleanliness. Provides information and assistance to visitors. May assist with carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical work and transporting materials and supplies. Performs other duties as assigned.

Amenities: This position performs at least 20 hours of volunteer service per week in exchange for a full-hook-up RV space.

Site elevation: 6,100 ft.

We are looking for couples/pairs, and hosts are permitted to bring pets.

Time Commitment:

20 hours per person per week. Time commitment is 3-5 months, May through September

Friends of Lathrop State Park


Description:
Do you care about Lathrop State Park and want to support your local park and community? What better way to prove your love by stepping up and forming a Friends of Lathrop State Park organization! Attempts have been made to establish a Friends group, but efforts have not remained consistent over the years and we are seeking dedicated individuals with great organizational skills, grant writing capabilities, and other professional management skills. Collaborate closely with park management to achieve shared goals. Responsibilities vary.

Garden Care


Description:
Water, prune, weed, and remote litter from garden area. Generally help keep garden maintained and beautiful!
Time Commitment:
Flexible but semi-weekly check-ins are preferred.

Maintenance


Description:
Assist with park maintenance, construction, and repair. Construct fence. Cleanup park grounds and facilities. Complete special or seasonal maintenance tasks as needed. (For example: boat dock repair). Do carpentry, remodeling or other construction projects. Provide landscape design expertise. Make park information signs. Assist with minor vehicle/boat/equipment repairs and maintenance.

Naturalist


Description:
Assist park staff with education programs on weekend evenings.
Time Commitment:
Length of programs vary from 30 minutes to 1 hour

Visitor Services


Description:
Visitor Center/Office Support. Greet visitors, answer phones, and questions. Sell park passes and licenses; word processing and data entry on the computer; or perform other clerical tasks. Staff a visitor center information desk or sales outlet. Coordinate a special event. Design and prepare exhibits, displays, and bulletin boards. Market and advertise park programs. Write and edit newsletters, brochures, fact sheets, and manuals. Produce artwork or graphic design for publications, signs, flyers, or exhibits.
Time Commitment:
4+ hour shifts, weekends preferred

People-Person? This role is for you! Greeting incoming visitors can be quite the treat as they head to their campsites, are out for a family stroll, or return to share their pictures of an exciting wildlife sighting!
